Inventory & Maintenance
Track every appliance, vehicle, and home system your family owns. Log purchase details, warranty dates, service history, and photos — and schedule recurring maintenance tasks so nothing gets missed.
Adding an asset
Open Home Inventory from the sidebar and tap Add asset. Give it a name and choose a category:
- Appliance — refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and other household appliances.
- Vehicle — cars, trucks, motorcycles, or any other registered vehicle.
- Home System — HVAC, water heater, electrical panel, roof, plumbing, and other built-in systems.
Tap Add details to expand the detail fields. All fields are optional — fill in what you have and return to add more later.
Asset details by category
The detail fields available depend on the asset category. Fields common to all categories:
- Manufacturer
- Serial number and Model number
- Purchase date and Purchase price (adults only)
- Warranty expiry
- Notes
Additional fields for Vehicles:
- Year, Make, Model, Trim
- VIN number
- License plate
- Insurance policy number and expiry
- Registration expiry
Additional fields for Home Systems:
- Service provider
- Last serviced date
- Extended warranty provider and expiry
Additional fields for Appliances:
- Retailer
- Last serviced date
- Extended warranty provider and expiry
Warranty tracking
When a warranty expiry date is set, the asset detail page shows an Active or Expired badge next to the date so the status is visible at a glance.
FamilyChaos can send a push notification before a warranty expires and optionally create a calendar event on the expiry date. Toggle both options on the asset detail page under the warranty section.
Extended warranty fields (provider and expiry) on Home Systems and Appliances show their own Active/Expired badges and are displayed inline on the asset detail page.
Photo attachments
Tap the camera icon on any asset to attach photos — receipts, product labels, condition shots, or anything else useful. Up to 10 photos can be attached per asset. Photos are displayed in a strip on the asset page and are included when generating a Resale Package PDF.
Maintenance tasks
Each asset can have one or more maintenance tasks — recurring jobs like filter replacements, oil changes, or annual inspections. Open an asset and tap Add task to set up a task with a name, interval (days, weeks, months, or kilometres/miles for vehicles), and optional notes.
When a task is due, it appears in the asset's task list with an overdue indicator. Tap Log completion to record the date and any notes — the next due date recalculates automatically. The completion is added to the asset's service history timeline.
Asset timeline
Every asset has a unified timeline that shows purchases, warranty changes, maintenance completions, photo additions, and any manual notes you add — in chronological order. Open an asset and scroll to the Timeline section to see its full history.
Resale Package
Generate a clean, print-ready PDF to share with a prospective buyer. Open an asset, tap Generate Resale Package, choose whether to include the purchase price, and FamilyChaos creates a PDF containing:
- Asset name and category
- Key details (model, serial/VIN, purchase date, warranty)
- Attached photos
- Full service history timeline
The package is generated as a shareable link that expires after 72 hours. Copy the link to send it directly, or download the PDF to your device.
Insurance Export
Tap Insurance Export on the Home Inventory page to generate a PDF listing all your assets with their category, purchase date, purchase price, and warranty expiry. This is designed to accompany a home insurance application or renewal. The export is generated on demand and downloaded directly to your device.
Capex Forecast
The Capex Forecast view (available to adults) projects upcoming replacement costs for assets that are nearing end of life, based on age and replacement cost estimates you enter. Use it to budget for major household expenditures before they arrive unexpectedly.
Child access
Children can view assets and their service history but cannot see purchase prices or replacement cost estimates. They cannot add, edit, or delete assets or maintenance tasks.
