Calendar

Tap the + button or click any date on the calendar grid to open the event form. Fill in the title and set the start and end date and time. Toggle All day for events without a specific time.

Optional fields include a location, a description, a colour label (managed in Settings → Calendar), and a Private toggle. Private events are visible only to you.

A filter bar at the top of the calendar lets you narrow what you see without leaving the page. All filters are additive — combine as many as you like and tap Clear filters to reset. On phones, the filters open from the funnel button in the page header. Your filters are remembered on each device.

• Search — type to find events by title, including events from connected calendars.
• By member — tap a family member's name chip to show only events they created. The chip reads Me for your own events. Member chips appear when there are two or more active members in the family.
• By label — tap a colour label chip to show only events tagged with that label. You can select multiple labels at once. To create, edit, or delete labels, choose Manage event labels from the ⋯ menu.
• By event type — use the All / All-day / Timed segmented control to show only all-day events or only timed events.
• Bills — bill due dates are hidden by default. Select the Bills chip to show them on the calendar.

The mini calendar in the sidebar has a Today button. Tap it to jump back to the current month and highlight today's date, no matter how far you've scrolled.

Enable Repeat to schedule an event on a regular pattern: daily, weekly on specific days, monthly, or annually.

When editing or deleting a recurring event, FamilyChaos asks whether the change applies to this occurrence only or all future occurrences. Editing all future occurrences updates the master series going forward.

Click or tap an event on the calendar grid to open its detail sheet. The sheet shows the event's title, time, label, and the name of the family member who created it. Tap the edit icon (pencil) to update any field — title, time, recurrence, or any other option. Save to apply your changes.

Adults can edit and delete any public event. Children can create events and edit the ones they made. A private event can only be seen and changed by the member who created it.

To delete an event, open it and tap Delete. For recurring events, FamilyChaos asks whether to delete this occurrence only or all future occurrences.

Set the end date to a different day than the start date to create a multi-day event. The event appears as a spanning block across every day it covers on the calendar grid.

When a weather location is set in Settings → Weather location, events within the 3-day forecast window show a small weather chip with the expected conditions and temperature at the event's start time (or the day's high for all-day events). Chips appear on event cards, in the mobile event list, on the dashboard, and on the wall display. The event detail sheet adds a line such as Weather for Ottawa: Light rain, 12°, 60%.

The chip highlights weather worth planning around:

• Precipitation — a 50% or higher chance of rain or snow.
• Windy — gusts of 50 km/h or more.
• Feels like — wind chill of −20° or colder, or a heat index of 35° or warmer.
• Weather alert — an active alert for your area overlaps the event.

In the month view, each day in the forecast window also shows a daily weather icon next to the date — with the day's high on larger screens.

Recurring bill due dates automatically appear on the calendar so you can see what's coming up without switching to the Bills section. Clicking a bill occurrence on the calendar opens its detail sheet.

Open To Do items with a due date appear on the calendar on the day they're due. Adults can hide them by turning off Settings → Calendar → To Do → Show due dates on the calendar. The setting only affects your own calendar, not the rest of the family's.

FamilyChaos exposes a CalDAV endpoint that works with Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, and most other calendar apps. To connect, open your Profile (tap your avatar in the top bar) and scroll to the CalDAV sync section to find your personal CalDAV URL and credentials.

Each family member gets their own CalDAV principal. Events are read-only from the CalDAV client — create and edit events in the FamilyChaos app.
